A man who fell to his death from a balcony was Brisbane unit boards, and police fear they will not be the last death by the new fashion. Formwork involves participants lying face down in different and sometimes dangerous, and share photos of their efforts with fellow plankers.
Acton Beale, 20, fell from a block of the main unit in kangaroo point Innercity the street and died at the scene shortly before 4:30 am today. Deputy Commissioner Ross Barnett said the man had been trying to sleep on the balcony railing when he fell.
He said the man and another person had engaged in several points on his way home from a night out. “He tragically lost his balance and fell to the ground below,” said Barnett. “It’s what we’ve been dreading.”
The commissioner said he did not know if it was the first death in Australia of recent fashion. However, he feared that it would last as plankers tried to outbid each other in increasingly dangerous places. “Police fear that as boards gains popularity may have more injuries and, potentially, more deaths,” said Barnett.
Plankers warned that would be charged if it was the fashion in hazardous locations. A man aged 20, was issued a notice to appear in court for trespassing when he was found plates of a patrol car in Gladstone last week.
“The acceptance of a risk of harm to oneself is one thing, but the potential is there for others to be injured as a result of their behavior,” he said. “But no penalty ever return to this young man to his family and friends. “This is a tragedy and our condolences to the family.”
